What does high ApoB mean and how does it impact longevity?Updated 10 months ago

High ApoB can indicate decreased clearance of cholesterol from the blood and is often coupled with high LDL cholesterol levels. Elevated ApoB and LDL levels can eventually lead to plaque buildup and the narrowing of arteries, which increases the risk of heart disease.

The latest research shows that ApoB is one of the best blood biomarkers to assess heart disease risk. This is because high levels of ApoB are associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis (the build-up of plaque in your arteries that can impair blood flow). When left unaddressed, plaque build-up reduces blood flow, increased blood pressure, and can lead to heart attack or stroke when compounded over time.

Heart disease is currently the leading cause of death in the United States and is estimated to contribute to over 650,000 deaths in the US alone every year. Therefore, ApoB levels are highly correlated with longevity and healthspan.
